Community events are a great way to stay connected to your local community and break down barriers of social isolation.
Whether it’s an event organised by the community or one hosted by the Summerland team, we believe in showing up for our neighbours and sharing what we know to help others thrive. Whether it’s a festival, a concert, a market or a fundraiser, community events can enrich the lives of everyone involved. Here’s a pick of some of our favourite events coming up in 2024.

Summerland Giant Pumpkin and Watermelon Festival

A fabulous community event for growers of large pumpkins and watermelons in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales.

Chinderah Chilli and Chocolate Festival
Saturday 23 March, 2024
Join the spicy celebration at the 5th Chinderah Chilli & Chocolate Festival, from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Seagulls Club in Tweed Heads. Experience a sizzling showcase of over 300 chilli sauces, delightful food trucks, and family-friendly activities.
Nimbin Art Fair

Lismore Gem Festival

One of Australia’s largest Annual Gem and Mineral show with over 140 Tailgaters and Dealers over two massive days selling and displaying Minerals, Gems, Fossils, Jewellery and Equipment from all over the world.

Byron Bay Writers Festival
Friday 9 - Sunday 11 August, 2024
Over 120 writers, thinkers, storytellers, and poets will craft a diverse program of memorable conversations and panels. Anticipating close to 10,000 attendees, ranging from avid word enthusiasts to the youngest readers.
Byron Bay Surf Festival
Thursday 15 - Sunday 18 August, 2024
This event is one of Australia’s most inclusive surfing events, featuring competitions, surf culture elements like art exhibitions, environmental awareness, and initiatives promoting sustainability, as well as the growth of women and children in the sport. Live gigs are also held throughout the extended Byron central business district.

Are the events free?
While we prioritise promoting events that are free and accessible to the local community, some events are ticketed or are organised for fundraising purposes. We encourage you to reach out to event organisers if the cost is not listed.
Do you broadcast events online?
While most of the world lives on Zoom these days, we still love the feeling of face-to-face events, when safe to do so. However, in the coming months, we will be trialling a series of web conferences or digital broadcast events to increase their reach in the community.
