We’ve all got the post-Christmas blues, and need an experience to look forward to, no? We understand you may not have the funds or the time for an exotic 3 week holiday, however it doesn’t mean all your hopes and dreams should fade. Do you need to recover, rejuvenate and have some much needed fun? Our tips for an unforgettable weekend away are the answer! Read on to find out how you can make it happen…
1. Pick a place
A lot of this can depend on whether you’re looking for a beach break in Byron Bay or a few days in a city, like Melbourne or Sydney. In order to work this out, it’s highly recommended you have a budget in mind, as this will affect how much you can splurge on a hotel. If you must have that smashed avo for brekky during your time away, you may wish to cut back on your accommodation so you have more spending money left over. We’d also recommend you look at travel insurance and travel cards if you’re going abroad. Read more handy travel tips to keep your money safe whilst you’re away.
2. Who’s coming?
Whether you want a romantic trip away with your other half or a girls/boys weekend, you’ll want to spend some time thinking about the vibe of the trip you want. If you’re incredibly busy in your work life, it could prove to be the perfect opportunity to spend more time with those who you don’t see as much of. You may even feel that you want to take a weekend away on your own, to disconnect from your phone and refresh your mind from the everyday stresses of life.
3. Pack light
For many of us, a weekend trip away is an excuse to take away our entire wardrobe…but it doesn’t need to be this hard. If you’re heading away for two to three days you probably don’t need any more than three outfits; that also doesn’t include the clothes you’re wearing to travel to your destination! There’s also a whole heap of videos on YouTube that can help make your packing a breeze, that’s worth checking out.
4. Don’t forget the snacks
Travelling to your dream getaway can be a tiring process. Whether you’re driving, hiking, biking or flying it’s always good to have a few healthy snack bars and treats to keep your energy levels high. Why not give the recipe for these delicious tropical coconut and mango bliss balls from our friends at Affordable Whole Foods a go.
5. Be smart with your time
If you’ve only got two to three days on your weekend break, you want to spend your time wisely once you’re there. Make sure you invest some time before you head away by making a list of the different activities and attractions you want to check out. Be it making a list on your phone, or pinning ideas on your Pinterest board; find a practical way to store all your travel ideas that works for you. If you’re planning to check out that restaurant your friend recommended, make sure you book beforehand to avoid any potential disappointment.
6. Take a good camera
Most smartphones nowadays have at least an 8-megapixel camera on them, so this will do the job of recording those perfect sunsets and what you had for dinner on Saturday night. It’s always great to also take some shots with friends and family, so you can look back and reminisce, whilst planning for the next unforgettable weekend away!
